I authored and ghostwrote over 100+ SEO-rich blogs, and spearheaded my own Artist Feature interview series which increased annual site traffic by 200%.

From spotlights on artists around the world…

We’ve spoken to a lot of incredible tape artists, each with their own special twist on creating with tape. What we don’t often see is one big artist collective dedicated to pushing tape art to its limits.

Until now: enter TAPE OVER.

TAPE OVER is one of the largest tape artist collectives around today. Based in Germany, this crew has created countless mind-blowing indoor and outdoor tape installations displayed across multiple countries. TAPE OVER has created artwork for big brands like Adidas, Converse, Mercedes, Absolut Vodka, and more. Their work displays an incredibly wide range of styles and approaches; a reflection of their diverse crew.

Today, we’re interviewing Robert, co-founder of this prolific artist group. Let’s dive in and learn the history behind TAPE OVER and how they use Pro Tapes products in their art installations.

[…]

Do you have any advice for people interested in making tape art?

“My advice is to just try it! There is really no better material than tape to start with a blank canvas or a blank wall, because if you don’t like what you’ve just done, you just take the piece of tape off and put it in another place.

You don’t have to worry at all because you can always change it back. So it’s rather about the process than doing it right. It’s really encouraging and fun.”

…to whipping up SEO-rich product features.

Our costume tapes are the TRICK you need to make any costume a TREAT this Halloween! Pro Tapes provides two double-sided costume tape solutions: Pro Costume Tape, and UGlu.

Pro Costume Tape (also called Pro 1502 or Pro Body Tape in our catalog) is a skin-friendly, double-sided tape that also works great on fabric. It comes in a portable roll with a paper liner that’s easy to tear by hand.

[…]

Pro Costume Tape has a strong hold on medium to lightweight fabric, for easy fabric-to-fabric attachments. That makes it easy to “sew” your own costume with NO sewing skills! The tape removes gently, without discoloring fabric or damaging fabric threads or texture. Pro Costume Tape is cleaner and safer to use than hot glue guns. Plus, any changes you make are reversible!

[…]

UGlu (that’s pronounced “you glue”) is a non-toxic costume tape that is safe enough for kids to use, but powerful enough for professionals!

UGlu attaches easily to a wide variety of surfaces, including rough or uneven surfaces like cork and foam. Like Pro Costume Tape, it removes easily and cleanly, so you can assemble, disassemble, and re-use any parts you’ve “uglu’d” together!

UGlu works just as well for professional grade costumes and prop designs (like cosplay, historical re-enactments, renaissance faires, film and theater costume design) as it does for last-minute DIY costumes at home.

Like Pro Costume Tape, UGlu is a safe alternative to hot glue guns. Plus, because it’s non-toxic, you can safely use it for kids costumes and pet costumes!

As a volunteer Director of Communications for the NYC UXPA, I provided content direction and editing for their Medium blog.

From giving inspiring & actionable DEI advice…

As designers, we strive to make a true impact on people’s lives. But when we design or create products in a bubble that lacks inclusivity, we miss out on making meaningful connections with our users.

Back in January, the NYC UXPA hosted an event on Diversity in Design with guest speaker Vincent Brathwaite. Vincent is a design leader, educator, and speaker, and is currently head of Global Leadership at InVision.

As part of this event, we asked our attendees—UX professionals at various stages in their career—for their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities surrounding inclusivity & diversity practices in research and design.

The thoughtful responses of our attendees inspired us to put together the suggestions below.

[…]

Overcoming one’s biases and implementing better DEI practices in our UX orgs and teams won’t be accomplished in a single day. Never lose sight of the fact that these efforts are not a one-off.

Having one conversation, hiring one designer, reading one article—these are only the first steps on a path. We are excited for the future of DEI, and we hope more companies and design organizations will join us.

…to educating emerging designers on critical issues.

The terms “dark pattern” and “deceptive design” were coined and championed by UX specialist Harry Brignull. Deceptive design utilizes knowledge of human behavior and psychology to trick users into doing things they wouldn’t normally want to do. In fact, the actions it drives users to do often go against the user’s own best interests for the benefit of the business instead.

[…]

As designers, we may be put into the uncomfortable position (intentionally or not) of being asked to create one or more of these dark patterns in our work. It helps to be aware of what these patterns are, so we can identify them and advocate for better alternatives.

[…]

Designers today have the ability to advocate for a better world, and we must do so resourcefully and responsibly. Deceptive design not only detracts from the customer’s experience (potentially leading users to churn away from your product), in some cases it may even be illegal.

When faced with businesses that want to utilize dark patterns to satisfy short-term goals over long-term product strategy, we can lead the effort to find ethical alternatives. Where ever we can, let’s work towards a future without manipulation and dark patterns in product design.
